ABOUT BENARES INDIAN RESTAURANT

Benares Indian Restaurant, located in Tribeca, NYC, offers contemporary authentic Indian Cuisine.

We welcome you to come try our perfectly spiced vegetarian dishes, tandoori meats & lunch specials. Visit us with friends after work for our delicious cocktails and assortment of wines, beers, and spirits. Our diverse menu includes a wide variety of flavorful dishes for you to try in our comfortable, modern venue.

Chef Dhandu Ram, previously co-executive chef at Michelin-star restaurant Tulsi, is the head chef at Benares and specializes in Tandoori dishes.

The menu is inspired by the western Indian state of UP (Utter Pradesh), home to the beautiful city of Benares. The city is widely known for its’ incredible vegetarian cuisines.

For the menu, we have curated multiple exciting dishes, including a Kashmiri Soup of roasted turnip and beetroot, pigeon peas, fennel, ginger, garlic and cumin. However, although Benares is noted for its vegetarian cuisines, we have also curated incredible and aromatic seafood and meat dishes.

This includes dishes like the Sevai Tomato Kurma (mussels, scallops, rock shrimp and crab claws tossed in a garlic tomato sauce over Indian style rice noodles) and the Tandoori Hen (whole Cornish hen marinated in lime, ginger, cumin, garlic and garam masala and cooked in the tandoor oven). No matter the occasion, company, or dietary restrictions, there is something at Benares for everyone to enjoy.

Testimonials

The food was amazing! One of the best india food I've had in ages! The service was second to none. With the owner engaging in conversation with each customer. I'll be going back soon for more tasty dishes. Highly recommended

Died & Went to Heaven! This food was so delicious. A friend and I came in for lunch and ended up taking them up on their lunch special. We got an appetizer, the entree, and a dessert. Worth it! All of this for around $16, so I can't complain. I wasn't left feeling bloated either, which I'll consider a testament of the quality of food we were consuming. Their iced tea is also super refreshing. You got to get in on this!

"Best Indian food in the NYC area! In fact, I had some guests visiting from UK (non- Indian) last evening and they couldn’t stop praising the quality of food and warm hospitality. It’s my go to place for Indian.

We had an incredible experience here. The service was amazing and the food was top notch. I am vegan and they had plenty of options for me and told me if I didn't like the dish they suggested, they would make me something else (it wasn't necessary though, as the food was delicious). The lunch special is an excellent deal. It was around $11 for an appetizer, main dish with rice, and a flat bread. As we were finishing, they came out with some rice pudding. Overall, it was very delicious and authentic! Next time I'm in NYC, I'm coming back here!

I'm a NYC resident that's been looking for quality upscale Indian food a while. Benares delivered. The food was delicious, tasty without punching your palate with spice. The decor tasteful, and the lunch menu an incredible deal. I'm vegetarian and had a cauliflower, paneer, daal, Chaat, rice, and naan. I was so stuffed by the end that I had to say no to dessert, with leftovers to take home. I think what really elevates the restaurant is the customer service. The staff helped me choose dishes and drinks, and the owner came by to ensure we were having a good time. I highly recommend to anyone craving some delicious Indian food.
